Would We Ever Have A Female Wizzy or OBO?
The female artistes in Nigeria will always claim not to have a fair shake. Not enough access to take a huge bite of the cake. Impossible conditions to take a piece of the cherry but with all these, some are still fighting hard to stake a claim for the big price.
Can a female artiste be the next Wizkid or Davido? What do they have to do to be placed on this pedestal of global success? In terms of singing, they are much better. Talk about hard work, they put in their fair share. What then can be responsible for their inability to be a major headliner in the industry?
Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Waje, Niniola and Simi are few artistes we respect but how come the industry ladder is so difficult for them to climb to stay at the utmost top of the stock pile? $exism, patriarchy, inequality, bias or just cultural practice that suggest a woman cannot be above the man.
What does the Nigerian female artiste need to do to be a Beyoncé or Rihanna in this part of the world? They have tried being sultry and Raunc#y. They have given us great music. They have international deals and endorsements just like the men but somehow they seem to fall short. As we celebrate women crush today, let’s be introspective and give what is due to our strong and talented female artistes putting in the work and are well deserving of our respect and recognition
